Amritsar The inquiry of a dowry harassment case filed by one Pooja has been shifted from Amritsar SSP to Amritsar (Rural) SSP by IG (Border Range) Rajpal Meena.

The district police had arrested Pooja’s husband Vikrant Sudhir and brother-in-law Gaurav Sudhir after had she complained that they were demanding more dowry and harassing her after the birth of her second daughter.

Kesho Prasad, Pooja’s father-in-law, in a representation to the IG (Border Range), alleged that the case was registered without proper inquiry and SHO Joginder Singh was not giving a fair hearing to his family. He charged Pooja’s family with misrepresentation of facts to get his family implicated in a false case.

“Pooja and her family have been threatening my son, because of which he had written to the the higher police authorities,” said Prasad. Komal Sudhir, Kesho Prasad’s wife, said the police were conniving with her daughter-in-law’s family to threaten them.

“On January 20, more than 15 police officers entered our house, used uncivil language and threatened my family with dire consequences,” she said. In a letter to the IG, Komal alleged danger to the lives of her family members and sought protection.

SHO Joginder Singh, however, denied harassing the accused. “I was just doing my duty,” he said. IG (Border Range) said the mandatory inquiry before registering a case under Section 498 was not conducted because of which it has been shifted to Amritsar (Rural) SSP . “A thorough probe will be conducted,” he said.
