The Creative Cultural Society of Sector 19 organised a Punjabi play ‘Gadar Ton Inqlab Tak’ in the open air theatre ‘Yavanika’ in Panchkula on Saturday evening. The performers took a round of the park, where the theatre is situated, to invite people to watch the play. Authored by Gursharan Singh, the play is wake-up call for those who have forgotten the sacrifice made by revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh for the freedom of the country. The performers enacted various important events of the freedom struggle. According to Ishwar Dutt Sharma, the play’s director, “The play is an effort to familiarize the present generation with our freedom struggle. They are so consumed by the Western influences and do not identify with our culture and history. Through this act we want to highlight the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and those fighting against terrorism.” ‘Gadar Ton Inqlab Tak’ boasted of powerful performances by actors Sukhwinder Singh and Madhubala who played Bhagat Singh and his mother respectively. Other performers included Sharit Kalia, Sahil Kumar, Raghav Bhardwaj, Balraj Singh, Amit Kesari, Sushil Kumar, Abhishek Sharma, and Inderjit. Though the turnout at the theatre was low, those in the audience were impressed by the performances. The popular call of ‘Pagdi Sambhal O Jatta’ invited applause from the audience. So impressed was M R Arora, a member of the audience that he announced a donation to the theatre society. “The people of the Panchkula want that such plays should be held time and again. The play really touched me and I hope it would be staged again soon,” he remarked. The evening rolled on with the Creative Cultural Society felicitating the actors and those associated with the play.
