Lucknow, February 27 Following reports of discrimination against Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe students and Dalit cooks during mid-day meals at government primary and junior high schools in Jalaun and Kannauj districts of the state, the government on Wednesday ordered action against four teachers.

In Jalaun, there were complaints that at a primary school in Ambedkar village, teachers were asking Scheduled Caste students to sit in the veranda of the school premises during mid-day meal. The rest were served meals while sitting on mattresses in classrooms.

After verification by the district administration, these complaints were found to be true. As a result, the head teacher and the assistant teacher of the school have been suspended.

Moreover, services of a para teacher have also been terminated. Jalaun district magistrate has lodged an FIR against the three teachers under the SC/ST Act.

Another case was reported from Kannauj district, where one Devendra Singh Yadav refused to let students eat mid-day meal cooked by a woman belonging to a Scheduled Caste.

As Yadav gave this in writing, an FIR under the SC/ST Act was lodged against him. Moreover, assistant teacher Dinesh Sharma of the same school refused to taste the meal cooked by the Dalit woman. Sharma was suspended and disciplinary action recommended against him.
