Chandigarh, January 7 The UT Administration has approved the proposal of Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) to construct 2,000 houses in Sector 63, which will include one, two and three bedroom flats. The integrated township will also have a commercial area, including a shopping complex. The entire project will come up on 42 acres of land.

The CHB officials are expecting to complete the project within two years after getting the tenders floated in the next three months time. Since the cost of the project has yet to be worked out, the cost of individual houses have not been fixed.

Mohanjit Singh, Chairman of the CHB, told Newsline that modalities regarding the allotment of these houses have yet to be decided.

He said that the allotment would be made through a draw of lots if the number of applicants surpasses the number of houses constructed.

“The entire project will be completed in one and half years of floating the tenders. The houses will be provided on competitive rates. The rates will be lower than the prevailing market rates at the time of allotment,” he added.

A senior CHB official said that before floating the tenders, they have to work out the modalities like project layout, design and the cost of the entire project.

Initially, the CHB had planned to construct 1500 houses, but now it is going to construct additional 500 houses to cater to the needs of Economic Weaker Section, Lower Income Group and Higher Income Group people.

“We wanted to increase the floor area ratio and density of the buildings in the given land. The process of approval took some time, but finally we have got approval for more built-up space. The administration has finally allowed to construct ground floor plus three storey buildings,” said the CHB official.
