Terming the compensation being paid to farmers as too low, Bansal accused the Administration of acting like a property dealer. He added that the adjoining states of Punjab and Haryana were offering a higher amount as compared to Chandigarh.
He added that the right of a farmer to appeal in court is also being suppressed in the UT. While the court fees for such cases in Punjab and Haryana is Rs 100, in Chandigarh, the farmers have to pay a percentage of the compensation demanded. He added that they would try to ensure that the National Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy, 2007 is made applicable in the city.
Congress leader Subhash Chawla said the agitation against the Administration would be continued till the farmers are suitably compensated.
