Chandigarh, March 4 The Chandigarh Administration has recommended the name of Jyoti Arora, Managing Director of Power Generation Corporation, for the post of UT Home Secretary, which at present is being held by Krishna Mohan, who will step down on March 31.

Sources said that if Arora’s name, a 1987 batch Haryana cadre, gets approved by the Centre, it may lead to a protocol clash among the senior officers of UT Administration as she will be surpassing UT Inspector General of Police SK Jain, who is seven years senior to her. Jain is a 1980 batch IPS officer.

Arora’s name was selected from the panel of three Haryana IAS officers, including Director and Special Secretary of Rural Development Roshan Lal, a 1984 batch officer, and Faridabad MC Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Khullar from 1988 batch.

Arora and her husband Rajiv Arora’s name figured in the recent Bhiwani Industrial plots’ allotment issue, where R K Sachdev, a Bhiwani resident and Aroroa’s brother, was allotted a half-acre industrial plot.

Earlier, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and UT Administrator General SF Rodrigues had strongly recommended Mohan’s extension, whose three-year deputation as Home Secretary ended in the first week of December last, to the MHA at least by one more year.

The Centre, in a communication to the UT Advisor, informed about the rejection of Mohan’s extension for the next one year and allowed the Home Secretary to continue only till March end.

In all, Mohan, an IAS officer of 1977 batch of Haryana cadre, served in UT for 8 years.

He was earlier the Deputy Commissioner here for five years and then returned as Home Secretary in 2003.
