Chandigarh, March 8 The Chandigarh Administration has decided to double the amount of financial assistance being provided for the marriage of daughters of widows and destitute women belonging to Scheduled Castes.

The scheme is being implemented by the Social Welfare Department. A sum of Rs 10,000 was being paid to Scheduled Castes widows and women residing in Chandigarh for the last 3 years, whose family income is not more than Rs 24,000 per annum. Keeping in view the inflation in prices, Chandigarh Administration has now decided to increase the benefit from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 for marriage of each daughter, with a maximum of two daughters in a family. The bride should at least be of 18 years of age on the date of marriage and it should be her first marriage. Other terms and conditions of the scheme will remain the same for availing the benefit.
