A special Tada court has sent notorious gangster Om Prakash alias Babloo Srivastava back to a jail in Uttar Pradesh after a remand application submitted by Mumbai police failed to mention the grounds on which it was seeking his custody. Srivastava, who has already been sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case in Kanpur, was wanted in the city in connection with the kidnapping of a builder in 1994. Shrivatava allegedly planned the kidnapping of Vishwanath Mittal from near Express Towers.
With a large number of cases pending against him in Delhi, Lucknow and Kanpur, Srivastava could not be produced before the Tada court in Mumbai for all these years.
When Srivastava was finally produced on Monday, Mumbai police forgot to mention the reason on which his custody was sought. “The investigating officer retired round five years back and the custody of the accused was wanted for more than a decade. It was a silly mistake,” said an officer.
While Srivastava was produced amidst heavy security, the entire arrangement will have to be set up once again on February 13 when he is expected to be brought to the city.
