“I reached the Red Cross office around 10.30 am. But the officials met me five hours later,” said Shravan. The 32-year-old added he has lost all hopes to get the compensation announced immediately after the incident.

Red Cross Secretary Vijay Lakshmi said: “As we were busy in an important meeting, we could not attend to Shravan in time. We have taken all the medical bills and the case will soon be forwarded to the deputy commissioner to seek swift reimbursement.” Shravan was also offered lunch later.

The Panchkula Administration, meanwhile, claimed on Saturday that it has forwarded Shravan’s file for reconsideration as a special case to the state government. The authorities had earlier claimed to have forwarded his case to the Haryana Social Welfare department for consideration. On Saturday, department commissioner Navraj Sandhu said it has not received the case of Shravan till now.

Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Rajender Kataria said: “Though Shravan’s case was rejected due to the non-availability of any domicile proof, we are making all possible efforts to help him now. His file had been forwarded to the welfare department. To further ensure that Shravan does get some help, we have now forwarded his file under special case to the state government through the Haryana Revenue department for reconsideration.” Kataria said the case would now be considered under the natural calamity fund.
