Chandigarh, March 6 Mohali is all set to play host to one of the biggest cinemas in the country, which will boast of 14 screens and 2,700 seats. Adlabs Cinemas, part of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group and India’s leading entertainment conglomerate Adlabs Films, has plans to set up its biggest cinema in Mohali.

Providing details about the project, Tushar Dhingra, Chief Operational Officer of Adlabs Cinemas, told Chandigarh Newsline: “The best cinematic experience in the largest cinema in the country will be our gift to the region. The cinema will come up at the ‘Mall of Mohali’, which will be developed by Emaar MGF. The cinema will be our biggest project till date. The work is going on as per schedule and the project is expected to be commissioned next year. Since India as a country is heavily under-screened, we are exploring all markets with a potential of cinema viewing.”

Adlabs Cinemas, which is currently running 140 screens spread over 48 properties nationwide, aims to take this number to 200 screens by the end of the current financial year.

The company is also exploring newer markets in North India and the next six months will see the rollout of at least 13 new properties and 30 screens in the region, said company officials.

Dhingra added: “The cinemas will be set up in cities like Ludhiana, Bathinda, Mohali, Zirakhpur, Muzaffarnagar and Amritsar to name a few. We have recently launched in Pathankot under the name of MSP Adlabs. It has two world-class wide viewing screens with a total seating capacity of 335 seats, excellent food and beverage offerings, crystal-clear DTS sound, superior Xenon projection systems and plush seats. We are also mapping Zirakpur, near Chandigarh and Moraddabad for launching our cinemas within the next six months.”

At present, Chandigarh has only one multiplex — Fun Republic. A DLF multiplex and a PVR Cinema are also coming up in the city shortly.
