Party state secretary Biman Bose said they are happy because the team refused to work the way the Trinamool Congress wanted it to.
“We are happy the team did not move according to their (Trinamool’s) demand. They met officials to take stock of the situation. If the team had visited some spots identified by the Trinamool, it would have been a wrong decision,” said Bose.
During its stay, the team met top officials, including the chief secretary and director general of police.
CPM sources said the party brass initially feared the team would visit Khanakul, where a villager was killed and the officer-in-charge of a police station was shot at.
Following the incident, the police arrested several people, including CPM activists.
The team’s visit, however, did not seem to go down well with the Trinamool, which wanted it to go to areas that have seen political violence.
Trinamool’s Partho Chatterjee, who is also the leader of the Opposition, said: “We appealed to the team to visit the troubled spots. We have informed our leader regarding the activities of the team.”
