Ten exclusive Commonwealth Games Cells have been established in every district, which will provide all information on Games-related activities. Besides, a mandatory training course has begun for ground level police officials — beginning from constables to sub inspectors.

The 3-day course, conducted for batches comprising 100 personnel each, have three subjects — basic English, human behaviour and attitude. The training was started in December last year and is expected to continue till February end.

“The course has been designed keeping in mind the influx of foreigners during the Games. Police personnel will play an important role in guiding and managing the flow of visitors. The course has been designed by Amity University and is being conducted by three organisations,” a senior police officer said.

The cops, including the traffic police, are being told that during the Commonwealth Games, their duty is not just to maintain law and order, but also act as guides for participants and visitors, said a police officer. Instructors from the Police Training College are training them.

At the end of the course, each personnel will be issued a booklet containing information on the Games.

The training is being held simultaneously in three range — Southern, Northern and New Delhi.

Besides this, the recently recruited Constables were trained with the goal to present an urbane and friendly face of the police to the public in general and tourists in particular. A senior police officer said a high-tech traffic management centre is also being readied with cameras installed at major roads and sensitive locations.
