Mumbai Defending champions Air India (Delhi) managed to edge past Western Railway by just two runs in an exciting league match of the Rs 10 lakh Dr. D Y Patil Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at the D Y Patil Cricket Stadium, Nerul on Sunday.

Batting first, lusty hitting by J Arunkumar (57), Deepak Joon (47) and R R Parida (45) helped Air India amass 195 for 3 in their 20 overs. In reply, opening bat Parag Madkaikar scored 66 and had two fruitful partnerships of 54 and 45 with Ahad Malik (34) and Mukesh Singh (9) respectively to bring Western Railway close to the target. The ninth wicket pair of Nehal Rawal and Akshay Gizap then brought Western closer still and they needed 10 runs to win in the final over from right arm medium pacer Vinit Jain. Rawal and Gizap managed to score seven before Gizap perished on the second last ball, their partnership yielding 22 runs, and the last wicket fell on the last ball to give Air India a three-run win.
