Chandigarh Passengers visiting the Chandigarh railway station will soon be able to enjoy airport-like facilities. The railway station, in its quest for modernisation, will provide modern facilities like self-operated luggage trolleys, LCD screens at each platform, and an automated train display system at the entrance and the circulating area of the station.

Keeping in mind the rising number of passengers the city railway station is witnessing, the Ambala division has decided to modernise the station in accordance with the demand and convenience of the passengers.

“The division is focusing on the Chandigarh station as an important area. The type of traffic at the station is selective of which a major portion is constituted by the Shatabdi passengers. Thus, the facilities to be provided will be decided keeping in mind their requirements,” said Divisional railway Manager H K Jaggi.

The division has decided to install numerous LCD screens at the platforms to provide infotainment programmes comprising train-related information along with entertainment clippings.

Apart from the LCD screens, large automatic train display screens will be installed too. The screens similar to the Flight Display System will be providing complete information regarding the trains.

“As the number of porters at the station is very less, the passengers keep complaining about the inconvenience they face after alighting from the train and till reaching the parking area.

“Expression of interest will be soon invited from interested parties for operating and maintaining the trolleys. In return, the party will be provided the advertisement rights on the trolleys. Both these services will be provided in another month or two,” said Jaggi.

A special new trolley path will be constructed for a smooth operation from the platforms to the circulating area.

“The passengers will be benefitted by these modern facilities at the station and we expect to receive a good response from the passengers,” said Station Superintendent R K Datta.
