New Delhi Left winger Ajeet’s 50th minute strike was enough for Garhwal Heroes to clinch a 1-0 win over Ahbab FC and take three points in the Group A preliminary league match here at the Ambedkar Stadium.

Both the teams ended goalless in a lacklustre first-half. They started off with a defensively, with their focus more on mid-field plays, and not on mounting attacks on the opponent’s ranks. The all-important goal was scored 10 minutes into the second half, as a smart cross from Gaimlung Kamei was coolly slotted in the net by Ajeet.

The otherwise dull encounter generated several tense moments. Ahbab’s Rohit and coach Aftab Ashraf were both shown red cards by referee Kamal Rakshit. Rohit was given marching orders for infringement, while Ashraf was penalised for using foul language against the referee.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Soccer Association has taken serious note of Ahbab coach Ashraf’s act and has decided to issue show cause notice to him.

In the first match of the day, Shastri FC rallied to nick a point against Indian Air Force (Palam). Air Force scored the opening goal in the 11-minute courtesy a Vijay Kumar goal. Emmanuel equalised for Shastri in the 81st minute.
