The party workers threw the board of the LIT into the Sidhwan Canal. “The trust did not serve us a proper notice before carrying out the exercise. Its action is not justified,” said former minister Jagdish Singh Garcha.
The trust officials, however, took strong objection of today’s incident and decided to file an FIR against Garcha and his men.
SDO R D Avasthi said: “I have informed the Executive Officer (EO) in writing and we will take the matter to the police on Friday. Although we did not see anybody removing that board, but according to eyewitnesses, it is certain the act was carried out by Garcha and his men. Even on Wednesday, he tried to interfere in the drive.”
The trust had taken over the land amid protests and even threats by the Akali leader.
The LIT staff had demolished the boundary wall and three rooms built on the plot.
The action was taken following the High Court’s instructions, and hence today’s action by Garcha calls for contempt of court, said Avasthi.
