“The aim was to give a glimpse of the work done by photographers across genres and age groups,” says Parul Vadehra, director of the Vadehra Art Gallery, who was helped by curators Sunil Gupta and Radhika Singh. “We wanted to do this show in a big way, not with 15-20 photographers. The aim was to reach out to photographers whose work isn’t exhibited often,” says Singh, who convinced the relatively reclusive Pamela Singh to give two images for the show. Aradhana Seth has also contributed pictures that were part of her photo album until now.
Dinesh Khanna, whose image of Tibetan prayer flags will be part of “Click”, says, “It should be fascinating to see the work of 86 photographers under one roof. Hopefully, it will be a slice of Indian photography.” Vicky Roy’s camera has captured the street children at the New Delhi railway station. “ I hope these images will make others aware of the plight of the kids,” he says.
And as this show goes up on the walls, Singh is looking forward to more such ventures. She says: “When we started, we had a database of 250 photographers, now we have over 650. There is a growing interest in photography, which is catching the eye of investors.”
The exhibition at Vadehra Gallery, Okhla, is on till March 31
