Kolkata A 36-year-old prisoner, who had been an inmate of the Alipore Central Jail since May 17 this year, died of heart attack late last night. His body was discovered around 5 am today. Sheikh Bablu (36), a resident of Kalna, had been sentenced to five years in jail for trafficking women. Jail authorities said he had been suffering from stomach pain since yesterday and expired late last night after a heart attack. They said he had been a drug addict for a long time and was ill when brought to the jail. Even there, he was ill most of the time. Kumaresh Roy, the superintendent of Alipore Central Jail, said, “We have not heard anything about him being a drug user. He was a nice person and we have heard he used to offer namaaz five times a day. The death certificate said he died of heart attack. We have no idea of him being unwell.” However, sources at the jail said he would regularly take substance in the jail.
