Ludhiana, February 6 DR Tejwant Singh, Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, Punjab Agricultural University, has announced that all the departments of the college will have their own refreshment room, one in each department. This was decided at a meeting that the Dean had with his various heads here today. These refreshment rooms will be made to help professors and scientists to engage in “meaningful interaction or entertain guests,” informed Dr Singh. The Dean added that the demand for the refreshment room was made by the PAU Teachers Association, to the Vice Chancellor during one of their meetings. “The VC, in turn, asked us Deans to see what can be done about it. The demand of the teaching faculty was to have space within the departments where they can come together, enjoy hygienically made food and interact with each other. Some of our departments are already running faculty tea clubs, and this refreshment room is just an enhancement.” Added Dr M S Mahal, president PAUTA, “We teachers very strongly felt that there was no proper canteen or cafeteria on the entire campus where one could interact. Even at college level, we do not have any proper canteen. There is no proper place where tea or food items are prepared hygienically. We have no place where we could take out guests for a cup of tea. Hence, we asked the VC for these refreshment rooms. These refreshment rooms could be one in each building, if not one in each department. We teachers need a place where we could get a decent cup of tea.” PAU has four constituent colleges, viz. College of Agriculture, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, College of Agriculture and College of Agricultural Engineering. PAU has about 35 departments in the four colleges.
