New Delhi Dear Prime Minister, you haven’t done much for the country, he wrote

Thirty-year-old Abhishek Kumar Choubey, who set himself ablaze in South Block on Saturday, took the drastic step because he was “dissatisfied with the way the country was being run by the Prime Minister”.

Choubey is in a critical state at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. He has 98 per cent burn injury but was conscious for a while.

Choubey poured kerosene on himself that evening and set himself on fire at the Sena Bhawan Park. Before the police rushed him to hospital, Choubey faced the cameras of a news channel and said there was “something he needed to talk to the Prime Minister about”. Choubey had unsuccessfully tried to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for five days. The man from Jharkhand had also been to Singh’s home and office.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a case of ‘attempt to commit suicide’ and an inquiry is also on. From his trouser pockets, the police recovered a receipt issued by a hotel in Paharganj where Choubey had put up.

A senior officer said: “We went through his belongings. We found his passport, an ATM card, clothes and a diary. We gathered he worked as an electrician in a computer firm in Kuwait. He returned to India a few weeks ago. He checked into this hotel on February 9 and paid Rs 500 as room tariff.”

Choubey apparently recorded his grouses in the diary. In one of its pages, an entry read like a letter to the Prime Minister. He wrote: “Dear Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, you have not done much for the country ever since you came to power. There was a rape case in Mumbai recently. Nobody was arrested... and no vital clues were found. Dreaded gangster Abu Salem was arrested by the Indian police, but inspite of him having committed indescribable offences, he is treated with respect and hospitality in the country. He has not been punished till now.”

The police official said Choubey had many complains and was unhappy the Prime Minister had not ‘addressed’ them.

Apart from this, the diary is also full of romantic poems. The police is investigating if Choubey was depressed because of a failed love affair. An officer pointed out that he chose Valentine’s Day to attempt suicide, which lends credence to the police’s suspicions.

His relatives have been informed but they are yet to arrive, officers said. The police are waiting for an opportunity to speak to Choubey.

The Angle by ANIL KUMAR on 17 Feb 2009

It seemed that Choubey Loved his country more than anything and it is a fact that AAM Admi has been disappointed by our PM mr Manmohan Singh. He has been very weak on all fronts. Afzal Guru has not been executed so far. Crime against the state is on the rise, be it Terrorist, Naxalite or fake currency. They are all meant to DESTABLISE INDIA. The law should treat all these persons as TERRORIST and after fast trial should be punished to death if found guilty, No Exceptions.Since PM is head of the cabinet everybody looks at him to provide the results to end all this. Nothing is being done. There seems to be a NEXUS between CRIMNALS

Congress is repsonible by Gopal on 17 Feb 2009

This is a prima facia failure of Congress Govt. led my PM Manmohan Singh. Choubey's views are shared by millions of people across India. Criminals like Sahabiddin are getting state honour. Top congress leader's kids are getting projected by the congress. POTA and INDT acts were withdrawn which have led to serial bombings across India, Mumbai blasts and killings of Indians in Assam. Manmohan Singh should go immediately.

Great! by Sanjeev on 17 Feb 2009

Wow! Indian Express is at it again. You smartly chose a statement by the cops to imply that Choubey did all that because he was frustrated with his love life. His anguish at the way this country is being run is shared by many.Manmohan Singh might not be responsible for it,but a prime minister is whom the nations looks upto, and he has disappointed.
