It’s been over three years since actor Smiley Suri, 25, made an impactful debut as a small town girl in Kalyug (2005), and did a vanishing act right after. “I just did not get the right kind of scripts after that,” protests Suri, who got her break in movies because of brother Mohit Suri.

However, Suri is in Delhi these days for a quick family reunion and will soon head off to Mumbai to wrap up shooting for N Chandra’s film, Yeh Mera India. (Chandra has been associated with Tezaab and Ankush previously.) The film, slated for April release has five stories weaved into the script and shows how the characters respond to prejudices in Mumbai.

“I play a strong and assertive girl (Aasha Ambedkar) who works in a call centre,” says Suri. She is cast opposite Rajat Kapoor and former VJ Purab Kohli. The ensemble cast in the film includes Anupam Kher, Seema Biswas and Rajpal Yadav. Her second film, which she has finished shooting, Downtown by Andalip Sultanpuri stars Vinod Khanna and newcomer Akhil Rajendra. “I play a small town girl from Nasik who comes to Mumbai to participate in a reality TV contest,” she parries.

contrary to the article, actor Smilie Suri's film with N. Chandra with the title Yeh Mera India is complete and ready for release. its her 3rd film Downtown that still has to shoot some talky portions and few songs. Also Smilie has got films on her own merits and not family connections. otherwise she would not have waited for so long for her second film.
