Ahmedabad Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee president Siddharth Patel said on Saturday that some industrialists are showering praise on Narendra Modi with a hope to get sops like that given to Tata Motors for its Nano car plant.

Addressing mediapersons, Patel said, “They (industrialists) are lining up before Modi only for concessions on the lines of that given for setting up the Nano car plant (at Sanand).”

Describing the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors’ Summit as “a drama to hide his failures on all fronts,” the Congress leader said that while farmers were not getting adequate power supply for agriculture, scheduled caste people in the interiors, particularly in Surendranagar district, were subjected to atrocities.

He accused the police of neither taking adequate measures to check it nor initiating action against the accused.

Referring to the gangrape of a Dalit girl student of Patan-based primary teachers training college and the deaths of two boys studying in the Asaram Ashram-run gurukul, Patel alleged that the state government initially tried to protect the accused.

He said action was taken only when the public pressure mounted on it.
