Ahmedabad The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which contested the December 2007 Gujarat Assembly elections in coalition with the Congress, is again seeking alliance with it for the April 30 general elections in the state.

State party president Jayant Patel, alias Bosky, told Newsline that parleys were on between the senior leaders of the two parties, but nothing final had emerged so far. The NCP had won three seats in the Assembly elections. The NCP is insisting for six Lok Sabha seats — Anand, Dahod, Ahmedabad (East), Rajkot, Kutch and Panchmahals (Godhra). Sources said the Congress is not prepared to accept the demand, as the NCP does not have the mass base required to win any of these seats. Patel said that while he himself planned to contest from Anand, Kalsinh Mahida will be fielded from Dahod, Bhurabhai Patel from Ahmedabad (east), Chandubhai Wagasia from Rajkot, Ishwarbhai Makwana from Kutch and former minister Urvashi Devi from Panchmahals. The final decision, sources said, would be taken by the party high command at a meeting to be held in New Delhi on March 7 to finalise the list of candidates for Gujarat.
