The row began when it emerged that the DDA had allotted a flat in Mayur Vihar though there was no area code for Mayur Vihar in the initial list of flats. Questions were raised as to how how an area code that did not exist was included in the allotment list.

“Under the DDA Housing Scheme-2008, 5010 ready-for-occupation flats of different categories were offered for allotment. In the draw held on December 16, 5238 flats were allotted which includes cancelled or surrendered flats under previous schemes in different localities. There is a clear mention in clause 24-B of the brochure of the Housing Scheme-2008 that the DDA reserves the right to increase or decrease the number of flats on offer . The DDA also reserves the right to withdraw some or all flats depending. No public notice is needed for adding or withdrawing any flat from the scheme,” said Neemo Dhar, Director, Public Relations, DDA. The flat in Mayur Vihar was added to area code 28, which in the brochure included 12 flats in Jhilmil, East of Loni Road, Nand Nagri, and Kondli Gharoli. Before the draw, the DDA increased the number of flats under this area code to 35. “It may be clarified that before Mayur Vihar came into being, the area was known as Kondli Gharoli/Trilokpuri. Areas with a very small number of flats were grouped under one code (Code No 28) ie, Kondli Gharoli. Therefore, the allegation that this allotment is wrong is baseless,” Dhar said.
