Ambala DC imposes ban on plastic bags of less than 30 microns

Ambala, January 11 The Ambala Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Shayin, has banned the manufacturing of plastic bags of thickness less than 30 microns and size less than 8”x12” in Ambala district today to keep the environment clean and pollution free.

The deputy commissioner said that a complete ban on the use of plastic carry bags in the areas of historical, religious and ecological significance would also be imposed soon.

While giving the details of the order, he said all the manufacturers of plastic carry bags have been issued notices to this effect. The places where the plastic bags have been banned are municipal limits of Thanesar town and Kurukshetra town, all wildlife sanctuaries and national parks of Haryana and gram panchayat Morni.

He stated plastic bags clogged sewerage drains, interfered with ground water recharge system, and infect food stuffs with toxic chemicals, cause air pollution, threat health of animals that are at risk of consuming them along with other material and transfer toxic substances to soil layers.

He added that strict action would be taken against violators as per the provisions of the Environment Protection Act 1986.
