The officials have unearthed several instances of recycling of biomedical waste and used syringes. A complaint in this regard has been lodged against five companies, said AMC Commissioner I P Gautam.
According to health department sources, the offenders involved in the illegal recycling process include Bindu Enterprise, located near Memco Bus Stand, New Laxmi Bottle near Omkar Mill, Bhagwati Plastics at Kailas Estate, and Dhanlaxmi Scrap and Ambika Scrap Traders, both situated under the Chamunda Bridge.
The godowns of these parties have since been sealed and criminal complaints have been lodged against the accused in the Shahibaug and Naroda police stations.
Besides, the AMC has intimated the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) for further action against the accused under pollution control laws, said Gautam.
Elsewhere, the AMC officials have also sealed a factory in the Rajpur ward near Soma Textiles factory for grinding and recycling of hazardous biomedical waste.
Gautam said four cases of Hepatitis B were reported in the city but they were not linked to the Modasa cases.
