DCP (Zone 9) Niket Kaushik said, “The medical reports have clearly eliminated any possibility of rape. The unnamed accused had entered her hotel room on the night of January 31 and had attempted to molest her while she was asleep. When she woke and raised an outcry, he fled from the room. She has given us a description of the attacker and we have clues about his identity. However, at this stage, we cannot reveal the identity of the prime suspect.”
As per Kaushik the US national alleged in her complaint filed on February 1 that when she was asleep in her room, a stranger entered inside and tried to molest her and when she raised an alarm, the accused fled.
“Apart from the criminal trespass and molestation charge, we have also charged the unknown accused under Section 511 (attempt to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment). However, one fact is certain, that the accused is an insider. The complex entrance has security at the gates and it is not possible for any outsider to enter the premises without any reason. Hence, our suspicion points at someone from inside the complex. It cannot be ascertained that the accused was an ISKCON member as outsiders have also rented rooms in the complex,” said Kaushik.
Devaki Nandan Das, the Zonal Secretary of ISKCON said, “I have spoken to the victim and from what she has told me, the accused seemed to be a tall, well built chap dressed in decent clothes. Besides, although it was very dark and the girl could not identify his face, she claims that she got the feeling that she had met or seen him before. Though she could not narrow down on anybody, she said that she got a ‘vibe of familiarity’ from the accused.”
When asked about the security at the premises, Das said, “We have very tight security. It is quite shocking as to how such an incident took place. This is the first time that such a thing has taken place and we hope the police arrest the accused as soon as possible.”
