The private AMRI Hospital, where Jyoti Basu was admitted for 17 days before he breathed his last on January 17, does not want to charge for his treatment. “We will be very happy not to charge for his treatment as a mark of gratitude and respect to the great leader,” AMRI promoter-cum-director R S Agarwal said. “He was like a guardian to me.” Agarwal said certain medical facilities were provided earlier to Basu at his Indira Bhavan residence.
