Ahmedabad The Transport Committee of AMTS, on Thursday, passed its annual budget for 2009-10 with addition of Rs 22 crore in the transport manager’s proposal of Rs 234 crore, taking it to Rs 256 crore. Major suggestions include construction of 15 toilet blocks at 15 terminus.

Committee chairman Pravinbhai Patel told reporters that a new bus terminus was proposed at Sola, while four to five plots of land were being identified for bus stands, including one in the Ranip area.

A night parking depot at Millatnagar should be functional this year, he said. Over 560 bus shelters have been proposed in the newly merged areas of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Patel added.

A ‘queue controlling squad’ will be set up to enable people board buses only after purchasing ticket, he said, adding that a new control room would be set up for monitoring bus movement through global positioning system to be installed in another 750 buses. The Sixth Pay Commission recommendations will bring an additional burden of Rs 8 crore to the AMTS, he said.

Two blue bacon jeeps will be procured for the officials who will be vested with powers to intercept buses for checking of crew and passengers.

The committee also approved the proposal for scrapping 50 old buses with estimated income of Rs 50 lakh. The same amount is to be raised through the sale of other scrap.

In a departure from its tradition, AMTS will give away prizes to drivers of private bus operators to encourage good manners and conduct with passengers. The chairman admitted that passengers file around four complaints in this regards daily.
