Kanpur While constables were busy celebrating Holi, an undertrial, Yogendra Singh, managed to escape from the Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital on Wednesday evening. A case of dereliction of duty has been registered against the three constables who were assigned to keep an eye on Singh.

Singh was arrested from his Ghatampur residence in June 2008 on murder charge. As Singh was suffering from jaundice, he was shifted to the LLR Hospital on February 28, 2009. Three constables Omendra Singh, Dharam Singh and Dwikar Prasad were deployed to keep a check on him.

Dayanand Mishra, SP (Kanpur West) said: “The constables have been booked. We have alerted the Ghatampur police, and the search for the undertrial is on.” The constables have been questioned but none could provide satisfactory answer for being missing while on duty, he said.
