Mumbai The Mumbai police claimed to have solved the Andheri double murder case with the arrest of three men. According to the police, they have arrested the accused —Amit Kumar(18), Sudhir(22) and Sikander Balmiki(20)— from Fatehpur for the murder of Kundnanis, an elderly couple. The police said that the trio could steal only a gold bangle worth Rs 45,000 and cash worth Rs 1,500 since they couldn’t find the key to the safe. The accused will be in police custody till March 13 and were charged with murder and robbery.

According to Andheri police, Kumar was working as a servant to Charan Kundanani who had been bedridden for the past few months. He was hired on the recommendation of two watchmen of the Nityanand society where the Kundnanis lived. The trio worked for a security agency called BSS & Co and Kumar used to go to Kundnanis’ residence after his duty.

“After the interrogation of the watchmen at Nityanand society, the police team discovered that Kumar lives in the railway quarters in Fatehpur. They then made his sketch and sent a team to arrest him. In Fatehpur, the team showed the sketch to a child and sent him to confirm if Kumar was at home. After confirming Kumar was at his home, the police team went there and arrested him,” said Archana Tyagi, additional commissioner of police (West Region). Kumar confessed to have committed the crime and told the police the whereabouts of Sudhir and Sikandar. They were later arrested from a village, which is around eight kilometres away from Fatehpur,” said Tyagi.

“Kumar had planned the robbery and he then called the other two men to Kundnanis’ residence. He let them go inside the house on the pretext that they wanted to watch television,” said Senior Police Inspector P Suryavanshi of Andheri police station.

They then went to Charan Kundnani’s room and killed him by suffocating him with three pillows. After this, they went to the kitchen where Kamla Kundnani was cutting vegetables. They covered her head with a blanket and strangulated her to death. After killing the couple, they went on to steal the valuables.

“But they couldn’t get away with more valubles as they couldn’t get the keys to the safe,” said Suryavanshi.
