Andhra kid Abhishek bags a double

Kolkata, February 3 SV Abhishek of Andhra Pradesh walked away with a double crown at the Sunfeast Junior Tennis Super Series 2008 at the Calcutta South Club yesterday. After clinching the boys doubles Under-16 title on Friday, he went on to take the boys singles Under-16 crown at the expense of compatriot Srikar Alla. Abhishek was seeded two in the championship while Alla was unseeded. Abhishek prevailed 6-3, 6-3.

Top seed Digvijay Singh Mehta took the boys singles Under-14 title. He defeated fifth seed from Karataka Viod Gowda 7-5, 6-2.

Boys’ Singles Under 14 Finals: Digvijay Singh Mehta (1)(HP)(2) beat Vinod Gowda (5)(Kar)(6) 7-5,6-2.
Boys’ Singles Under 16 Finals: S.V. Abhishek (2)(AP)(14) beat Srikar Alla (AP)(54) 6-3,6-3.
Girls’ Singles Under 16 Finals: Ankita Raina (1)(Guj)(11) beat Carol Augustine (3)(Dli)(21) 6-3,6-4.

Meanwhile, top seed Aniket Sudhir of Maharashtra qualified for the main draw in the SPS Elegant Central Excise AITA Open Grass Court Tennis Championship 2008 that started today.

Aniket got the better of Deepinder Bains from Chandigarh 9-5. From Kolkata, second seed Vinod Kumar Sewa and Farid Alam have been able to reach the final round. Vinod Sewa beat another Kolkatan Biplab Das 8-3 while Farid Alam scalped sixth seed Mahendra Varman of Tamil Nadu 8-3.
