Annual athletic meet held at GADVASU

Ludhiana, March 4 The second annual athletic meet of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) was inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Dr VK Taneja today.

The chairman of the organising committee, Dr KS Sandhu, welcomed the chief guest. The flag of the university and the college was hoisted by Dr Taneja, to the sound of the trumpets. An eminent sportsperson of the university lit the torch. Dr Taneja also released a bunch of balloons, symbolizing prosperity and enthusiasm.

The athletes presented the march past and saluted the chief guest. Dr Dulcha Singh Brar, PAU Director Student Welfare, was the guest of honour. Deans, Directors, heads of departments, faculty members, staff and students of GADVASU and PAU attended the athletic meet in large numbers.

The girls of College of Veterinary Science performed the ‘gidha’ in the inaugural session. The boys of the same college performed the ‘bhangra’ in the closing session.

In the evening, Dr Taneja gave away prizes to the winners of the various sports events. Speaking on the occasion, he said that sports are very important, for a healthy mind lives in a healthy body. The RVNCC cadets of the Veterinary College performed various equestrian events.

Baltej Singh and Priyanka Rana were declared as the ‘best sportsman’ and ‘best sportswoman’ of the veterinary varsity respectively.

The winners of the events are: 5000 M - Harshdeep Joshi. 1500 M (Men) - Rajdeep Singh. 1500M (women) - Priyanka Rana. 110 M Hurdles - Baltej Singh. 100 M (Men) - Baltej Singh. 100 M (women) - Priyanka Rana. 200 M (Men) - Baltej Singh. 400 M (Men) - Gursharan Singh. 400 M (Women)- Priyanka Rana. Discuss (Men) - Tusarpreet Sharma. Discuss (Women) - Jatinderbir Kaur. Triple Jump - Gursharan Singh. Hammer Throw - Birjoginder Singh. Broad Jump (Men) - Baltej Singh. Shotput (Men) - Birjoginder Singh. Shotput (Women)- Sukhmani Bhullar. Javelin throw (men) - Gursharn Singh. Javelin throw (women) - Ramandeep Kaur.
