Chandigarh, February 7 Another councillor has resigned from the sub-committee formed a few days back by Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Mayor Pardeep Chhabra. After nominated councillor Dr A P Sanwaria resigned from the House Tax Assessment Committee, BJP Councillor Gurcharan Dass Kala too has resigned from the same committee.

Kala, who was in Delhi when Mayor Pardeep Chhabra formed the committees, submitted his resignation to the Mayor. Kala is the leader of the BJP in the House. He said while all the other committees are have Congress councilors in majority, most of the opposition councillors were included in the house tax assessment committee. He said if the committee proposes any new tax, the Congress could easily shirk its responsibility.

“Like other committees, Mayor should have included majority of the Congress councillors in the house tax assessment committee. Why only one Congress councillor is there? Majority of nominated and opposition councillors were put in this particular committee, so that Congress could blame us in future for any of our decisions,” said Kala.

Earlier, nominated councillor Dr A P Sanwaria in his letter to the Mayor had stated that UT Administrator Gen S F Rodrigues (retd) has nominated him as a councillor on the basis of his specialty so that he can contribute his experience for the benefit of the people of the city.
