Kolkata Police arrested Amit Mondol, one of the prime suspects in the murder of 22-year-old Sudipto Bhattacharya, from Baranagar Kalitala on Thursday.

Sudipto’s body was found stuffed in a gunnysack underneath the Bally CCR bridge on December 21 after he had gone missing on December 17.

Mondol’s arrest followed three earlier arrest of Sudipto’s friends — Sandip Bit, Sanatan Bhattacharya and Jaganath Shaw. Sandip told the police that Mondol had murdered Sudipto and that he was a partner in the crime.

“Both the accused were in a financial crisis, which became the motive behind the murder,” said SP of Howrah Neeraj Singh.

While Sandip had recently lost his job, Mondol had lost his money in stocks.
