Another jobless diamond worker commits suicide

Rajkot Another jobless diamond worker committed suicide by consuming poison in his house in Shekpipariya village of Lathi taluka, Amreli district, on Saturday. This is the second such case in Amreli in a week.

According to the Lathi police, the deceased, Lakhman Talsania, said that he took the drastic step because he had been jobless for two months and had nothing to support his family.

The diamond unit that Talsania had been working with had closed down after Diwali in the wake of the global meltdown. Talsania was rushed to a hospital in Lathi after his cousin found him lying unconscious at his home. Later, he was shifted to the Amreli Civil Hospital, where he died on Saturday.

Meanwhile, another diamond worker from Amreli district ended his life on Wednesday. Kishor Koli, 22, a resident of Vandalia village in Babara taluka, was brought to the Amreli Civil Hospital on Wednesday afternoon, after he reportedly consumed poison.

In another incident, a body of another diamond worker was fished out from Tapi river in Surat on Sunday. The police said that the victim, Kalpesh Jadav (45) had lost his job about three months ago and had committed suicide owing to financial crunch. He worked at Sanghavi Diamonds and stayed in Tripti Society near Katar village in Surat.
