Mumbai After arresting a scrap dealer, Mehboob Qureshi, for buying electronic gadgets worth Rs 79,000 using a stolen credit card bought from a small-time thief Sunil Ramesh Waghela, the LT Marg Police have arrested another scrap dealer for buying stolen gold ornaments from Waghela .

According to assistant police inspector, Suresh Awhad from L T Marg police station, on December 28, Waghela and his accomplice Salim broke into the house of one Kumarpal Premchandji Shah (37), a resident of Malharwadi, Kalbadevi.

They stole cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 1.98 lakh. Awhad said, “They sold the ornaments at subsidised rates to Geeta Naresh Sharma, a scrap dealer who has a shop in Dhobi Talao.”

He added, “We arrested Waghela a few days back as he was suspiciously loitering near a residential building, as if looking for a way to get in. After grilling him we learnt that he had robbed Shah’s house and absconded with gold ornaments.”

The police arrested Sharma a couple of days back. “We have recovered Rs 1.4 lakh from her and are in the process of recovering the rest,” said Awhad. The police are now on the lookout for Salim.
