The tiger entered Ghazipur on Tuesday from Bihar crossing the Karmasa river, said R N Tiwari, District Forest Officer. The Kasmasa river divides the Bhabhua districts in Bihar and Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh.
The tiger on Tuesday attacked three people near Piyari village and attacked another three people on Wednesday near the railway track between Darauni and Mohammadpur districts. In the last 24 hours, the tiger has also attacked several neelgay in Ghazipur’s Naugarh forest.
“For the safety of the people, we have deployed a team of forest officials in the villages where the tiger was last sighted,” said Tiwari.
“Currently, the tiger has taken cover in the bushes in the fields, and we have been directed to ask the villagers not to cause any harm to the tiger,” said Suraesh Babu, Station Officer of Jamaniya police station.
The tiger was last sighted near the railway track in Darauni on Wednesday morning.
Speaking to The Indian Express, the former gram pradhan of Piyari village, Saeed Khan, said: “The tiger was fist spotted by Bhola Ram, a resident of Ghazipur, when the tiger attacked him while he was on his way to the fields.”
When Bhola Ram was attacked, some onlookers tried to save Bhola and in retaliation the tiger attacked them and injured thirteen- year-old Abhishek of the same village.
The injured were immediately taken to the hospital.
The tiger once again came out from its hideout in the evening on the same day and attacked one Bhola Rai, who was also taken to hospital by the villagers, said Khan.
On Wednesday morning, three locals were again attacked by the tiger near the railway track while they were on their way to the fields. The injured — Bharose, Kripa and Mangal — are being treated in a primary health centre.
