Anti-foeticide drive fetches award for Bhiwani resident

Chandigarh Haryana Governor Dr A.R. Kidwai presented a cash award of Rs 21,000 to Shyam Sunder Sharma, Secretary, District Red Cross Society, Bhiwani, for his outstanding services in the field of checking the evil of female foeticide, at a function held at Haryana Raj Bhavan here today.

Col (Dr) G.P. Taneja, Honorary Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Haryana state branch, was also present on the occasion.

Lauding the services of Sharma, the Governor, who is also the president of Indian Red Cross Society, Haryana state branch, said that the “Beti Bachao - Kanya Bhrun Hatya Mitao (save daughter - stop female foeticide to save daughter)” campaign should be made a mass movement by the Indian Red Cross Society with active participation and cooperation of all the voluntary organisations of the state.

Appreciating the efforts made by Sharma for creating awareness among the masses against female foeticide, Col Taneja told the Governor that a new campaign “Ek Pahal - 2009” (An Initiative - 2009) would be launched by all the branches of District Red Cross Society in the state to check the evil of female foeticide.

Sharma said that he had motivated over five lakh persons in the state to join the “Beti Bachao campaign” with a firm determination to nip the evil of female foeticide in the bud by creating awakening and educating the people, especially in rural and slum areas against the evil of female foeticide.
