Ludhiana The tall claims made by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) of providing landline connection within 24 hours came unstuck as it failed to provide service to its subscribers.

According to sources, “There are about 500 applicants in the queue waiting for the landline connections of BSNL. These applicants applied about a week ago and were yet to get the connection at their respective places.”

Gurmel Singh Guru, Manager at the Central Bank of India, who has also applied for the landline connection at his Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar residence on Chandigarh Road, said, “I applied for the landline connection of BSNL at Transport Nagar exchange on December 24. I deposited Rs 500 in the exchange. The demand note number issued to me is ‘N572013’. I was told that number would be provided by evening. But nothing has happened till date. I have personally visited the Transport Nagar exchange many a time. The officers present there say there is no wire for giving the new connections, so it is being delayed.”

He said that his children studied in the college and he urgenty required the internet service for his children. He said, “I thought of having broadband connection of BSNL. But 14 days have passed and I am still waiting for the landline connection.”

Another subscriber also complained of a similar problem.

“Due to un-availability of ‘drop-wire’ the phone connections have been delayed,” revealed official sources. MS Dhaliwal, Deputy General Manager, BSNL, however denied there was any delay in providing connections.

“There is no shortage of wire. It may be a case in the area of a particular officer. I will check up as to why the subscribers are not getting connections,” he said.
