Sources said that without advertising about the vacancies in the university, the administration has appointed 30-odd persons between 2003-2007. Some of the appointments were shown in backdate for early promotion.
These anomalies in appointment of teachers and employees have come to the fore following an inquiry conducted by Vice-Chancellor Nitin Ramesh Gokarn. Following the complaints by some of the teachers and employees, Gokarn, who assumed the charge of V-C on January 1, had ordered a probe into the anomalies last month.
The inquiry report pertaining to the appointment anomalies have already been sent to Governor T V Rajeswar, who is the chancellor of the university.
“There are irregularities in the appointment process. We have prepared the report that has been sent to the Raj Bhawan,” said Gokarn refusing to comment further over the inquiry report.
Sources said bypassing the norms, teachers and employees were appointed in various faculties, including humanities, social sciences, social work, commerce, management, education.
The inquiry report also highlights financial anomalies.
“Even as there is no provision to give conveyance allowance to employees, a monthly amount of Rs 2,500 and Rs 3,500 were being provided to Class-IV and Class-III employees respectively. This conveyance amount was being withdrawn from the university exchequers for the last three-years,” an official said.
He alleged that several senior officials pocketed huge profits for giving illegal appointments.
“Now as the anomaly has come to the fore, several senior officials will have to face strict action. The inquiry pertaining to the appointments was long overdue,” a senior official said.
