Gurgaon The arms licence renewal authority in Gurgaon has cleared the application for arms licence renewal submitted by Harsimrat Kaur, daughter-in-law of Punjab CM Prakash Singh Badal and wife of MP Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Harsimrat had been granted the arms licence on May 28, 2002, on the address of a hotel owned by the Badal family in Udyog Vihar, Gurgaon. Harsimrat had mentioned her address as 443, Phase V, Udyog Vihar, Gurgaon, in her original application and two renewals. According to the India Arms Act, the applicant must be a resident of the area from where he or she wants an arms licence.

Station house officer of the Udyog Vihar police station said: “We had stated that the address mentioned in her application was that of a hotel and not a residence. Kaur is a visitor at the hotel and does not live there permanently, as per our findings then.”

About the controversial case, DCP (Headquarters) Kulwinder Singh said: “Our role was to verify the address proof given by the applicant and then give a recommendation to the sub-divisional magistrate.” Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jai Singh Sangwan confirmed the application he had received on September 26, from Harsimrat Kaur had been given a “no objection”.
