Arogya Mela in city from Jan 30

Mumbai Mumbai will host its first Arogya Mela ‘AYUSH’ to spread awareness on Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy from January 30. The exhibition will have free medical checkups, live Yoga demonstrations and preparations of the Ayurveda medicines.

The central government funded International Arogya Fair- 2009, after being held in different parts of the country, will be hosted in the city till February 2 at MMRDA Grounds, Bandra-Kurla Complex. Around six medical colleges along with 400 participants and 16 lecturers will be a part of the exhibition. The exhibition organised by AYUSH, FICCI and supported by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will cost Rs 1.25 crore.

Mayor Shubha Raul, who is also an Ayurveda doctor, is responsible for bringing the exhibition to the city.

“Apart from Allopathy, there are many other fields of medicine which are central to India and should be widely promoted. This exhibition is in the public interest,” she said. There will be lectures on treatment facilities in AYUSH and free medical check-ups and consultation along with demonstrations on making easy Ayurvedic, Homeopathic medicines.

“We have invited women Self Help Groups to come and attend the exhibition so that they can learn how to make Chyawanprash, medicinal oils among other things. They can also sell these items later,” she said. The exhibition will also include Ayurvedic medicines, plants and trees of medicinal importance, literature and audio-video on AYUSH.
