Madhuri Bhaduri is back with an exhibition of her paintings and this time, the muse for these art works is the painter herself

My art is my autobiography. It is born of the thoughts from my everyday life, my various moods and the intense passions of my mind. Each subliminal experience is a starting point for a new creation," says Madhuri Bhaduri, a city-based artist who will be displaying her paintings in an exhibition named Madhuri Bhaduri -- The Theme in Backdrop on Canvas. Speaking about the paintings, Madhuri says, "The paintings are a reflection of my innermost thoughts and feelings and how I have connected to them over the years. They are basically abstract landscapes and to put it in simple words, I myself am the subject of my work."

Elaborating about her style of painting, Bhaduri says, "Over the years, I have painted landscapes, figures, portraits and abstracts. For me, painting is more about understanding myself, exploring new horizons and expressing these thoughts on canvas. I like using warm colours, bold strokes and vivid themes to portray my thoughts." Art is as much about surface as it is about symbol, says the artist. "As a spectator, it requires a lot of courage to delve beneath that surface. Through my canvasses, I offer not just a sumptuous feast of colour – but flaming yellow and crimson textures that torment, sting, and excite the viewer by combining intrigue with mystery," she adds.

The exhibition is a preview of a show by Bhaduri, which is to be held in Mumbai from February 16 onwards. "It is always good to be showcasing one's work in Mumbai. The show in Pune will be displaying all the 35 paintings which I will also be displaying in Mumbai. For the past 22 years, I have been holding shows the world over. However, this show is particularly special to me because firstly, it is being held in Pune and secondly, it reflects my most intimate thoughts," she says.

(The exhibition will be held at the Tilting Art gallery at Ishanya from February 11 to 13)
