New Delhi One of the suspects in the Arushi-Hemraj murder case returned to Noida on Friday after the new Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team re-examining the double murder summoned Rajkumar from Nepal.

Official sources said Rajkumar, who according to the CBI is the prime accused in the May 16, 2008 murders, has been called to the CBI headquarters on Saturday.

“My lawyer rang me up and said the CBI Inspector wanted me to come to India,” Rajkumar told Newsline on arrival in Noida on Friday evening. “I don’t know the reason; I have not received any written communication from the CBI.”

Rajkumar’s lawyer Naresh Yadav said he would inform the court before allowing Rajkumar to be interrogated. “I will hand over my client only after the court knows it,” he said. “The CBI gave us no written intimation and simply asked me to call Rajkumar on December 30. We want CBI to cite why they have called him.”

A CBI official informed that neither the murder weapons nor mobile phones of the victims have been recovered but the investigating agency wants to verify “a few things” from Rajkumar. Sources said there is no development yet in the theft of Arushi’s post-mortem records from District Hospital in Noida either.

Arushi Talwar, 14, and family help Hemraj were found murdered in Noida’s Jalvayu Vihar on May 16, 2008. The CBI had declared at a press conference in July that three helps — Rajkumar, Krishna and Vijay Mandal — were behind the murders. The agency, though, could not collect any evidence against them and failed to file a chargesheet against the suspects within the stipulated 90 days; consequently, they were let out on bail.

Krishna and Rajkumar went to Nepal in the last week of September to be with their families; the CBI has not called Krishna.

The CBI also suspects Rajkumar had hidden the murder weapon and the victims’ mobile phones, and that he may have taken them with him to Nepal. While the CBI team had reportedly gone to Nepal to search for the evidence, Rajkumar said: “No CBI officer came to me when I was in Nepal.”

As reported by Newsline on December 26, Rajkumar said he has developed a hearing problem, allegedly following the two narco-analysis tests conducted on him by CBI when he was under detention.

RajKumar summoned by CBI by Dev Chhetri on 09 Jan 2009

CBI must arrange for the travel, living and food expenses for Rajkumar. We live in a civilized society and it is time that CBI shows some respect to fellow citizens. If there is permanent damage to Rajkumar due to CBI's narco analysis, they have to provide treatment and money for care.
