Ahmedabad, January 3 Le Corbusier is back. The world renowned architect, who gave Ahmedabad some of its architectural masterpieces, is here again. Of course, in the form of his works to be exhibited in the premises of his own creation- the Ahmedabad Textile Mills’ Association building on Ashram Road.

The exhibition titled ‘Le Corbusier, from Marseilles to Chandigarh’ will recreate the master architect’s world which was not restricted only to architecture but myriad other things which mirror the dynamic personality that Corbusier was.

Ahmedabad, which has its own history of architectural wonders, boasts of four buildings designed by Corbusier. They have become examples of modernity synthesised with social aspects, and placed th city on the world map. Besides ATMA, the other three buildings are Sanskar Kendra in Paldi, Sarabhai House in Shahibaug and Shodhan House in Navrangpura, each unique in its own way.

The exhibition, brought by Le Corbusier Foundation (Paris), holds greater importance as it will be housed in the ATMA building, and the exhibits would range from Corbusier’s paintings, sculptures, tapestries, manuscripts, models, books and photographs, thus giving an insight into his vision and principles.

And that’s not over. With a symposia and documentaries planned alongside the exhibition, it will be an architectural extravaganza for practitioners and students alike. The programme will see acclaimed architects like B V Doshi and Charles Correa as lead speakers.

Le Corbusier Foundation director, Michel Richard, says that the exhibition will showcase the last 20 years of Corbusier’s works.

Doshi, who has worked with Corbusier, says that the architect was like a father figure to him and his principles on architecture was not just about buildings but was synonymous with life itself. Experts also believe that works of Corbusier here ought to be on the UNESCO World Heritage list, but what’s more important is public appreciation and participation to conserve these structures for posterity.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on Januray 5 and will be open till January 22 from 10 am to 7 pm.
