In the first case, a VB team led by DSP Gurcharan Singh arrested an ASI, Paramjit Singh, posted at the City Police Station at Khanna. According to VB officials, ASI Paramjit Singh was arrested red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from his namesake Paramjit Singh, a resident of Tanda Kushal Singh village under Machhiwara police station.
The VB officials said that Paramjit Singh of Tanda Kushal Singh, who had been booked in a criminal case by the Khanna city police was recently released on bail. The accused ASI had been demanding Rs 10,000 from Paramjit Singh on the pretext of presenting his challan in the court. Finally a deal was struck at Rs 8,000 and a sum of Rs 2,000 was to be paid as the first instalment. But Paramjit Singh complained this matter to the Vigilance Bureau which laid a trap to arrest the ASI Paramjit Singh.
In another case, the VB arrested a patwari Baljeet Singh red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from one Darshan Singh, a resident of Thul village under Dehlon police station.
Complainant Darshan Singh had told the VB that a litigation was pending between him and his mother and brother on other side for the division of their land. He said this case was pending with Ludhiana East SDM. Darshan Singh had alleged that the patwari Baljeet Singh was demanding a bribe of Rs 2,500 from him for preparing the map of their land. Finally the patwari made a climbdown and settled for a sum of Rs 2,000. But Darshan Singh complained the matter to the VB and the patwari was arrested while accepting the money.
