Kolkata Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta on Thursday warned of stern action against bank recovery agents if they use force to recover loan from defaulters. Yesterday, agents from a nationalised bank barged into the apartment of a woman at Kasba in North 24-Parganas district, assaulted her and ransacked the house. The locals later caught and thrashed them.

“I have raised the issue at today’s meeting,” Dasgupta said at the end of a meeting with bankers.

“I told the bankers that force cannot be used to recover loans. I also spoke to the CM and asked the police to inquire into it and give me a report,” Dasgupta said.
