Prasad’s nephew, Sandeep, who allegedly was an accomplice in the murder of property dealer Devesh Yadav, was also arrested. The police said Prasad was wanted in around 10 different cases, besides four murder cases, including the Friday night murder. Prasad was carrying a bounty of Rs 10,000.
Late Friday night, four motorcycle-borne miscreants fired indiscriminately at Yadav at Kabristan road in Sarojini Nagar. Yadav had sustained five bullet
wounds and later succumbed to his injuries. The victim’s family lodged an FIR at Sarojini Nagar police station naming Prasad and Sandeep for the murder.
According to the police, the two accused fled to Kakori after killing Yadav. Police conducted a search in Kakori and spotted Prasad at his cousin’s house in Bhagwant Kheda village. In the ensuing encounter, Prasad was shot dead. A six-round revolver was recovered from his possession.
The police said Prasad’s enmity with Yadav over some property issue was the reason behind the latter’s murder. Prasad was also accused of murdering Yadav’s younger brother Jeevendra in 2006.
“Yadav was to appear as a witness in the same case shortly. Since it was almost confirmed that Prasad would get life imprisonment in the case, to prevent him from appearing in the court, Prasad killed Yadav,” said Additional Superintendent of Police, East, Harish Kumar.
