Pune, February 25 Ajit Chandrakant Satkar, who was arrested on Sunday after he, in a drunken state, vandalised the car of a visiting Aurangabad High Court judge and assaulted the judge’s driver, was produced in the Shivajinagar Court on Monday, where he was remanded to police custody and later granted bail.

Judge R M Borde of the Aurangabad Bench of the High Court had come on an official visit to Pune and had been provided accomodation in Anuksha Housing Society on Prabhat Road, Erandawne. Borde was accompanied by the High Court driver, Sachin Bhausaheb Deshpande, who had parked the Hyundai Accent in the building’s parking lot and was waiting for Borde. As Deshpande and the judge’s wife Ratna Borde waited next to their car, they were spotted by the accused, Ajit Chandrakant Satkar (35), a resident of the same society, who walked up to them in an inebriated state.

According to Deshpande’s statement to the police, Satkar kicked the car, broke its tail lights and even manhandled him. A complaint was registered at the Prabhat Road Chowki and Satkar was arrested under sections 353, 32 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code, relating to detering a public servant from his duty using assault. He was produced before JMFC Judge K K Patil, who remanded him to 15 days of magisterial custody.

Assistant Public Prosecutor A V Ausekar said the motive was yet to be ascertained. “Satkar resided in the same building and reportedly has political connections. He was in a very drunken state at the time of the incident. Whether he suffers from any other addictions and where he sources his stock of addictive substances from needs to be investigated. His fingerprints need to be sent to the bureau and the kingpin behind this incident, (if any), needs to be traced,” Ausekar said. Satkar was granted bail on the conditions that he would not hamper the investigation in any way or destroy any evidence. He has been directed to remain present at the Deccan police station every Monday.
